A Climate for Change

Whatever agreements emerge from Copenhagen they will rely on people to enact them, both directly and indirectly. But it seems that people aren’t ready to embrace the need for change. According to The Times only 41% of people in Britain think that climate change is largely man-made, and even more worryingly, only a quarter of those surveyed think it’s a serious problem.
The issues discussed in and around COP15 in Copenhagen are changing by the minute. This blog features a group of people across different sectors and nationalities who are all part of the key issues that will be discussed in Copenhagen. Dr Anne-Marie Warris, one of the world's leading climate change experts, is our lead blogger.

Our blogger for April 15, "4 months on from COP 15" is Dr Anne-Marie Warris. She was also our blogger for day one, November 30th,day four, December 3rd, day five, December 4th day seven, December 6th day 13,day 14 and day 15, December 12-14th and day 19, and day 21, December 20th. She is the Lloyd's Register Group's leading climate change expert. She is leading our delegation at the COP 15 negotiations in Copenhagen, December 7-18, 2009. Anne-Marie is the chairperson for the ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems (EMS) technical committee as well as the UK Emissions Trading Group (UK ETG). Anne-Marie is featured in episode 1, episode 2 and episode 4 of the Lloyd's Register Copenhagen Podcast Series. Our day 20 blogger is Sean Cuthbert. Sean has been one of the most insightful and consistent bloggers on this site. His day two, day eight, day nine, day 11, day 17 and day 18 blogs all provide insight into the discussions that are happening at COP 15. He is the Lloyd's Register Energy Business Stream's leading climate change expert. A chartered chemical engineer with an international career spanning 15 years, Sean has been involved with and led various project teams focusing on the implementation of CO2 Capture and Storage, Clean Energy, Enhanced Oil Recovery, and energy efficiency technologies. Sean was interviewed for episode 4 in the Lloyd's Register Copenhagen Podcast Series.
Our blogger for day 16, December 15th, is W Ian Hamilton. Ian is Technical Director of Human Engineering, the human factors and ergonomics consultancy of Lloyd’s Register. Ian is a Chartered Psychologist who thinks that psychology can help to understand why so many people are slow to accept the scientific findings in relation to climate change and its causes.
Day 11, December 10th, featured three bloggers, Madlen King for the first time, Sean Cuthbert and Dr Anne-Marie Warris. Madlen (also our blogger for day 12, December 11th) is the Global Climate Change Manager for LRQA and heads up the team. She is responsible for the delivery of LRQA's climate change services, whilst also ensuring the technical integrity of those services.

Dr John is the Vice President of Climate Change Services at RMA, a member of the Lloyd's Register Group,with over 25 years experience in the areas of greenhouse gas assessments, atmospheric physics, air toxics review, climate change and chemical risk management. Dr. John is a Lead Verifier qualified by the California Climate Action Registry for reporting and verifying greenhouse gas emissions inventories under the following protocols: General Reporting, Power Utility, and Cement. Our day 22, December 21st and day six, December 5th blogger is Alex Briggs. Alex is the Marketing Communications Manager for Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) and the chief editor for www.businessassurance.com . He is involved in the development of the LRQA climate change strategy.
Our day three, December 2nd, blogger is Nicholas Brown. He is Marine Communications Manager, in London, for Lloyd's Register's Marine business. Nick began his career in 1991 with a major Hong Kong based ship owning and ship management group. His shipping experience encompasses commercial ship operations, industry policy, investor relations and public affairs.
